BiographyHuang Jun (nickname Maochen懋忱1914-Oct. 3. 2011, Beijing ) entered the Chinese Painting Study and Research Association in 1928; studying painting with Pu Ru (Xinyu) in 1930; teaching painting at Painting Study and Research Association beginning1934. Entered the National Peiping Art School, 1938. Upon his graduation in 1944, he became a teaching assistant at the Association while continuing his study of landscape painting, calligraphy and classical poetry. He also taught at the National Peiping Art School. After 1949, he joined the faculty of the Central Art Academy. Known for his gongbi (“meticulous” court painting style) renderings of traditional landscape, bird-and-flower, and beautiful women, Huang Jun also participated in the creation of Socialist Realist propaganda posters in the early 1950s addressing subjects like the building of national infrastructure and the support of the Korean war effort.
