More Information
This stupa is located on an island in Bei Hai (North Lake) Park, an imperial garden in Beijing. The monument was built in 1651 to commemorate the first visit of the Dalai Lama to Beijing. The park was originally part of the Forbidden City (imperial palace complex). A marble bridge leads to the island on which stands the temple, which is some 165 feet (50 meters) tall.
