The last member of the family's artistic lineage was Shokosai V. Like his predecessors, this artist was expected to attain the highest technical and artistic standards if he wanted to succeed the family's artistic line. He was not allowed to exhibit his work until he had completed fourteen years of intensive training.
In this deceptively simple flower basket, Shokosai V reveals his personal interpretation of the loosely plaited style developed by his grandfather, Shokosai III.
