More InformationHayakawa Shokosai IV was the eldest son of Shokosai III. He studied the family's trademark techniques until the age of twenty, when his father died, after which he self-trained. When the family's basket-related archives and possessions were destroyed in bombings of Osaka during World War II, he relocated to Kyoto. Unlike his successful father, Shokosai IV generally avoided the limelight of prestigious public exhibitions and instead concentrated on training his son and forging new ways to carry on the family traditions in a rapidly changing society.
