More Information

Clay coils applied to a cord-marked clay background decorate the upper part of this globular jar. These coils form loops that are joined to the heavy, beveled rim in three places. This combination of cord-marking and applied coils appears on many Jomon ceramics. Like most pottery of this period, this jar shows the evidence of many repairs.
