More InformationShallow grooved decorations are typical of late Yayoi vessels from the Joto site in Okayama prefecture. This jar shows a shallow groove around the neck and mouth rim. Just below the lowest groove is a band of dots. Other examples of this type of jar have been excavated along with accompanying tall stands, which suggest that they were used for ceremonial purposes.
