More Information
This head from a haniwa figure, like others of its kind, affords insights into the fashions and customs of young women of the time. The woman's head has a characteristic wide, flat hairdo with a small comb placed under the hair on the forehead. The only other accessory is a pair of bead earrings. Cut clay pieces were applied to all haniwa faces to indicate a nose and occasionally eyebrows.
