More Information
Apart from the yellowish glaze with lead-colorant used in the north, the celadon glaze with iron-colorant that began in the south succeeded in becoming the dominant product until the sixth century in most kilns. Yellowish glazed ewers in this conventional shape were reportedly produced in Shaanxi (Shaanxi Inst. Arch. 1965: pl. 8) and Henan (WW 1964.3: 50) during the Tang period. Along with a few similar ewers (Li 1989: pls. 59, 62; ZGMS Quanji 1988 vol. II: pl. 28), they were most likely a specialty item from the Henan shop.
