This work presents two activities enjoyed by the Chinese scholar while in reclusion: appreciating scenery from a lakeside pavilion and fishing. In the center of this painting one recluse sits in a pavilion looking at the lake on the left, where another is fishing from a boat.

Artist's Biography
According to the little information on him available in standard texts, Chen Luo specialized in painting fans and occasionally hand scrolls, particularly of the flower-and-bird genre.
