More InformationThis winter scene probably narrates a Daoist story. A gentleman on horseback is traveling along the mountain trail followed by his servant carrying luggage. At right, a barefoot person wearing a grass cape and holding a gourd awaits the group before a city gate. His special garb suggests that he is a Daoist master. He is probably waiting to greet the gentleman who has just returned from his journey to seek the Way (or Dao) deep in the mountains.
