On View
Not on viewThe broad shape of this work reflects the tendency of potters to transform tall forms to shorter and broader ones that occurred at northern production centers starting in the thirteenth century. Boldly applied large mottles were made possible due to the iron content of the glaze and the high temperature at which bowls like this were fired. The application of brown ornamentation on dark glazes is common, decorating various cizhou ware.
