On View
Not on viewSamuel Howitt based this watercolor on a sketch by Captain Thomas Williamson, a soldier who served in the Bengal region for almost twenty years. During his time in India, Williamson made numerous sketches and wrote detailed descriptions of various game animals. In England, Howitt reworked Williamson's sketches into paintings, which were then engraved for a spectacular publication called Oriental Field Sports.
