On View
Not on viewThe dark and muted tones of this painting, along with the downcast gaze of the woman depicted, convey a somber mood. Whether this painting was intended to be a study of a heartsick lover or simply of a woman deep in thought is unclear. The sense of loss experienced by separated lovers, as seen in several of the other paintings on display here, was one of Chughtai's favorite themes.
