On View
Not on viewThis large globular jar is a buncheong inspired stoneware decorated with a chrysanthemum, cloud, and crane design and covered with white slip under the glaze. The surface of its entire body is stamped with small stylized chrysanthemums interspersed with larger chrysanthemums. The principal raised design of two cranes above clouds appears on one side of the shoulder. The jar swells out at the center and abruptly narrows above the shoulder to meet the everted mouth. The inside and outside of the mouth rim are decorated with a band of slip-covered stylized chrysanthemums. The small base emphasizes the globular form and shows iron-rich reddish clay color. The color of the glaze turns bluish in some areas creating an iridescent quality.
