On View
Not on viewThis painting is an example of the early stages of Bae’s transition to the theme of Road to Master as part of the Meditation series, where multiple figures are seen traveling on or alongside a horse or boat toward an unseen destination. In the midst of these travelers, there is always a seated figure denoting meditation. In the mid-1980s, the artist began to experiment with more solid forms, particularly human figures creating works that merged graphic designs, modern prints, and paintings. In this work, the strong, rough strokes are suggestive of carved woodblocks for printing.
