On View
Not on viewIn this work, Yoong Bae pasted pages from a Korean newspaper on a large sheet of paper and placed a figure on each page. Figures posed in meditation are silhouetted in dark ink without any individualizing traits. Toward the bottom of the painting Bae painted an area of bright color, simulating light and suggesting hope or enlightenment. This motif, a bright color in one small area of the composition, was one he used often in his late works.
