More InformationPotters from the Gaya states are believed to have developed this kind of stand to place beneath round-bottomed jars and bowls. At first these stands were modest in height, as in this example. Streaks of “accidental” glaze were formed when ashes from the kiln fire fell onto one side of the shoulder area.
