More Information

Manipulating traditional brush techniques, Chen Jialing creates the composition of the mountain range by layering staccato brushstrokes and dots of various densities. The bluish orange hues convey a vibrant autumnal atmosphere, while the red dots hint at the changing colors of the vegetation. The continuous brushstrokes form the outlines of the mountain rocks and suggest dynamic patterns in a vigorous rhythm.

Chen Jialing’s landscape paintings are powerful statements of his characteristic style and philosophy. He is an advocate of breaking the boundaries of convention and experimenting with new techniques, and believes artists should transform themselves internally and externally to bring the medium of ink painting into contemporary contexts. His dramatic approaches to color and brushwork often yield transcendent forms that linger between reality and abstraction.
