More Information
This landscape, painted in the style of the late Ming-dynasty painter Lan Ying (1585–1660), presents an autumn scene with a fisherman sitting alone on a boat by the riverbank. This figure gazes off into the distance towards the towering trees in the foreground. The red and yellow leaves on the trees indicate the changing colors of the season. Against the light washes of pale orange and blue tones, fine brush lines accentuate the details of the foliage and rock surfaces. The tall center pine tree winds up and carries the viewer’s gaze to the remote mountains and high peaks in the far distance.
