Yu YourenChinese, 1879 - 1964

Born to a highly educated family in the provincial town of Sanyuan in Shaanxi province, Yu Youren was a scholar, a leftist, and a revolutionary. He served as vice minister of communications

under Sun Yatsen and held other elected posts within the Nationalist government. Yu moved with that government to Chongqing (Chunking) and, when the PeopleÆs Republic of China was founded (1949), he relocated to Taiwan. Throughout his life Yu was known for the excellence of his calligraphy and his classical poetry.
