Wang Chong, style name: Luji, Luren. Sobriquet: Yayi Shanren. A student elite Wang Chong from Wu county (Jiangsu) despite not performing well on the civil service examinations, still entered the state academy on a recommendation. With a passion for Song-period verse and pre-Tang and Tang-period calligraphy, especially that of Yu Shinan and Wang Xizhi, he mastered calligraphy and seal carving. He achieved a style, simple and full of classical spirit, rather than one that was elegant or bold.
