A native of Hongdong, Shanxi province, Dong Shouping is a respected calligrapher and traditional style painter. Introduced to the Chinese classics, calligraphy, and painting at a very young age, Dong is famous for his impressive renditions of prunus blossoms, bamboo, and landscapes, especially of Huangshan. His works are characterized by elegant expression and vigorous brushwork. Dong Shouping taught at the Nanhong College of Art in Chongqing until 1945. He is now an artist at the Rongbaozhai Art Reproduction Workshop in Beijing.
