More Information
This woman stands holding her outer garment, which is decorated with a pattern of thistles and clouds. Underneath that garment, she wears a kimono with a chrysanthemum pattern and an obi (sash) with a lightning pattern. That the woman is a courtesan is indicated by her swaggering posture, a result of having to balance herself in her heavy garments, including the front-tied sash.
