More Information
This kind of fox (kitsune) mask is used for the old fox character in the Kyogen play Fox Trapping (Tsurigitsune), in which a fox tries to teach a lesson to an overzealous hunter. There are only three types of animals represented in Kyogen masks, the other two being raccoon dogs and monkeys.
