On View
Not on viewThe pair of stirrups is inlaid in silver with linked hexagons, each containing a floral motif. The interior is red lacquer. From the signature we know that these stirrups were made by the artisan Iijima Seizaemon of Hino in Goshu (what is now Shiga prefecture). Only high-ranking samurai could ride horses in the Edo period. Beautiful stirrups were a sign of the owner's privileged position.
