The dragon symbolizes the emperor of China as well as high rank and power. This vase represents an attempt to revive the style of dragon decorations from the Xuande emperor's reign (1426-1435). The artisan painted numerous dark specks on the blue areas to imitate the natural "heaped-and-piled" effect of the cobalt decoration on Xuande porcelains.approx. 1800-1900
