南宋漆器紅方形絏瓣瘮托盤

Each of this tray's corners is formed into paneled lobes. Found in both lacquers and ceramics, simple and elegant designs like this one reflect the taste of the Song-dynasty court and members of the educated elite. When used to serve bowls of tea and snacks, this piece would present a strong contrast between its bright red cinnabar and the bowls' dark-glazed ceramic.
