More InformationOn the back of this figure there is an inscription of fifteen characters, which indicates the statue was commissioned by a eunuch named Fang Bao in 1564. Fang Bao was serving as a sixth-level court official to supervise the emperor’s meals in Nanjing, the southern capital of the Ming dynasty.
