More Information
This figure can be identified as a Manchu warrior by his long braid (queue) and the style of his attire. He wears a white hat with a red tassel. The Manchu conquered China in 1644 and ruled the country as the Qing dynasty until 1911. Originally a semi-nomadic people from the region to the northeast of China, they attempted to preserve their identity as separate from the Chinese through visible cues such as their dress and grooming.
