More Information
The Kangxi imperial kilns revived the lustrous, sacrificial blue glaze of the Xuande era simultaneously with the sacrificial red glazes. The Kangxi blue glaze was not consistent in thickness and could appear either dull or lustrous. These wares followed the classical tradition in shape, color, and the format of the inscription into the next reign periods. During the Yongzheng-Qianlong era, the blue glaze became consistently lustrous. Underglaze-blue inscriptions in four or six characters were produced either in standard or seal script. The lip was left white, a treatment identical to that on red-glazed wares.
