More InformationAlthough the shape of this ding remains well within what is expected of its type, the exuberant flanges and other appendages on this massive vessel represent one of the more radical departures from Shang-dynasty prototypes taken during the early Western Zhou period. In the more extreme examples, the appendages are the focus of the vessel.
