More Information
From the late Tang, southern celadon and white-glazed ware began to be formed into bowls and dishes with varying lobed lips, a change from increasingly monotonous rounded rims. Originally produced with three to five lobes, the number of lobes later increased—some Liao vessels were designed with as many as twelve lobes. Arguments about the site of manufacture of these unearthed white-glazed bowls and dishes are divided into Hebei, Liaoning, Hunan, and Zhejiang often according to nothing more than the archaeological circumstance of their discovery. This piece, with its yellowish glaze seems characteristic of northern white-glazed wares.
