Not on viewThe beauty of this lovely bowl derives from its realistic rendering of a turtle enjoying the sunlight on a lotus leaf, in which this lobed basin itself represents the three-dimensional water plant. Wares with raised floral or aquatic themes on the interior base became a specialty of longquan potters during the Yuan (Zhejiang Light Industry Bureau 1989: pl. 39, fig. 4).
