More InformationVarious interpretations of the use and shape of the cong propose that it was a token of the power of noble families, symbolized the male principle (yang), or served as a ritual object whose round part represented the heavens and its square part the earth. The cong shape first appeared among Neolithic jade and bone artifacts of the Liangzhu culture and was later adopted by Song potters.
