More Information
With its rather straight neck and round body, the fu form—in metal or ceramics—was the conventional storage jar during the Han dynasty. The quality of its clay and impressed latticework design assigns this piece to the high-fired earthenware tradition of the south. Round-shaped jars of high- fired earthenware were produced across a wide zone in the south beginning in the Neolithic period. The high, full shoulder and the decorative manner of the single overall stamped design were late features of yinwentao.
