On View
Not on viewFirst appearing during the Six Dynasties, and posed on a square base from the middle of the sixth century, ceramic figures of westerners (huyong) then acquired the glaze. Rarely excavated as whitish glazed large huyong, a few such pieces were ascribed as being from Sui tombs at Luoyang, Henan (Qin 1955: pls. 33-4). Recently recovered ceramic boots partially glazed and painted were reported from Anyang in Henan (KG 1992.1: 43, fig. 1). The coiffure provides a clue which dates the figure to the Sui or early Tang period.
