More InformationThis jar provides a glimpse of Ming elite tastes and the rigorous standards and skills required of potters. Its story unfolds from the right: a gentleman in a two-story pavilion, attended by two servants, prepares for a visit from three official guests. The visitors approach on horseback through fields enshrouded in clouds. Two servants precede them, carrying a zither-like instrument for intellectual cultivation and a wrapped sword for martial arts, to be used at the upcoming gathering.
