On View
Not on viewThis type, with red painting over white glaze, flourished at jingdezhen during the middle Ming period. Conventional lotus scrolls decorate the shoulder and body, and lotus panels circle the bottom part. The striking border on the neck, a coin-patterned band consisting of several openings each containing a flower, emerged in the middle fifteenth century. The decoration on this piece, applied in cardinal outlines over light-toned red and pepper-red areas against a white-glazed background, represents the best use of red pigments.
