Hiking by the Oceanside

A talented student of the renowned Cantonese artist Huang Junbi, Kong often made hiking to various sightseeing places in Hong Kong to make drawings and paintings. This depiction of sails and waves in the ocean bay represents his experiment in applying the traditional brush style onto the new canvas format. One of his landscapes was once selected to represent colonial Hong Kong at the British Commonwealth Exhibition in London in 1962. Kong later immigrated to San Francisco and often taught Chinese ink painting of landscapes and still-life vegetables as a volunteer at the Asian Art Museum.
