Not on viewTextiles such as this one (also see F2008.42.1 and F2008.42.2), with its horizontal wave- or vine-like bands in interlocking tapestry weave called "luntaya acheik" were always expensive because of the exacting and time-consuming effort required to produce them. Red and green patterns were reserved for the use of members of the royal court. Some lengths of such cloth had their corners sewn together, as here, so that when the cloth was wrapped as a man's elaborate lower garment it would have voluminous pockets.
