More Information
This box shows the deep and smooth carving typical of that achieved in the Song period (960–1279). The finely decorated lid and body show two cranes dancing among flowers, including peony, chrysanthemum, and plum blossoms. The combination of two cranes with these flowers representing different seasons expresses a wish that the recipient enjoy a long, happy life through all the seasons.
