More Information
Forgery of Persian pottery started in the nineteenth century, as systematic collecting of the authentic objects began. Although this bowl appears relatively complete in normal light, coatings and overpaint become visible under ultraviolet (UV) light. These are generally used to hide repairs. The bowl is actually made up of pieces from several bowls from about the same period, with large areas of plaster filling the gaps between the fragments.
