More Information

A number of very similar standing crowned Buddha images, carved from single tree trunks, have been found in temples in the city of Bagan (Pagan) in Myanmar (Burma). Bagan was once the capital of a large and powerful kingdom.

In 1989 a tiny sample of wood from this figure was submitted to carbon-14 testing. The test suggested an age
range of 720 to 860 years, confirming the date range scholars have given to figures of this type.
