On View
On viewThe kira is the national garment for the women of Bhutan. This kira, in contrast to the one at the right, is very colorful, with prominent pinks and blacks. The border is minimally decorated, but the central stripes each consist of multiple, often visually complex diamond-shaped motifs separated by rows of multicolored squares. In Bhutan, each household and family group have their own set of designs and associated narratives, making each kira a multimedia story told in cotton and silk, as well as a key carrier of cultural traditions.
