The Buddha of the north is the green Amoghasiddhi, "He of Unfailing Success." As resident of the northern region, he summarizes the powers of all Buddhas who precede him. Amoghasiddhi's special symbol is the four-color crossed lightning bolts (vajra), which can be seen on the cloth of his throne. This crossed vajra is also the foundation for every Lightning Vehicle mandala.
Amoghasiddhi has a female counterpart of great fame and power, Green Tara ("Wisdom").
