Description

Label:

Chao Shao-An, like his predecessors also affiliated with Lingnan school painting, took particular interest in the poetic symbolism of the changing seasons. The sense of loss associated with the cooler months and the passage of time was often expressed with words as well as images, as is the case with this painting’s poetic inscription:

Its elegant grace should be cherished,
Yet it might not ease the sense of sorrow.

Xinyou year (1981), early spring.
Shao-An at the Charming Cicada Studio.
