More Information
Imari ware is named after the port from which the porcelain was shipped to Europe and West Asia. These wares ranged in design from simple to complex, and from blue-and-white to polychrome enamels. The decorations on this dish-floral motifs in underglaze blue and in overglaze red, green, green-blue, and gold enamels-are an example of an early stage of the colorful decorations for which Imari ware is known.
