More Information
We see here elephants being loaded with supplies and rigged in preparation for a journey, a tiger hunt. The simple howdahs on the elephants' backs, in which their riders would travel, are far more humble than those seen on royal elephants. Other practical details are shown here, too, such as the use of a ladder to climb atop the animal. Mundy further conveys his personal interest in elephants by showing them here with expressive eyes and as tired,worn-out creatures. At one point in his journal he informs his readers that although he didn't like pets, were he to consider one in his old bachelor days,he'd want an elephant!
